Edith Kerrison School Day Below is a brief description of the rhythm of our school day
For our two Year olds (The Snuggery)
Doors open at 8.40am. Children come into the two year old provision with their parent/carer and are greeted by their child’s key person. A key person is a special person who is responsible for a key group of children and will be the person parents/carers speak to, to share information and address any initial questions. We have a free flow environment, where children can choose what they want to do and where they want to be, inside and out. Activities are based on children’s interests, but also a focus on developing children’s communication and language development, physical development and in particular their social and emotional well being and development. Adults ensure that children have the time and freedom to become deeply involved in their play giving children opportunity to practice their skills and become effective learners. The activities will continue throughout the morning until snack time, where children will have a selection of fruit and vegetables along with water. Children are invited to come together at the end of the session for a story, songs and rhymes, before going home at 11.35am. This process is repeated for the afternoon children. Doors open at 12.30pm for children’s arrival and at 3.25pm for children’s collection.
For our three and four year olds (Blue, red and green classes)
Doors open at 8.40am. Children come into the nursery with their parent and carer and find their name card and badge. Parents are encouraged to help their child change their book from our library. As with our two year olds, children are greeted by staff in the classroom. Please bring your child into the base classroom at the start of each session to say “Hello”. This base is where you will collect your child at the end of the session. We have a free flow environment, where children can choose what they want to do and where they want to be, inside and out. Activities are based on children’s interests, but also a focus on developing children’s communication and language development, physical development and in particular their social and emotional well being and development. Activities also support art, music, science, mathematics and literacy. These learning experiences will take place across the nursery, inside and outside. Adults ensure that children have the time and freedom to become deeply involved in their play giving children opportunity to practice their skills and become effective learners. There are snacks available, between 9.30-10.30am, where there is a selection of fruit, vegetables, water and milk available to the children, which the children help to prepare. The learning experiences continue until the children come together for a story, songs and rhymes before either going home or staying for lunch. Doors open for children’s collection at 11.35am.
